About Us
Ecofang As was founded in 2016 with the idea of harvesting wild sea urchins – an underutilized Norwegian marine species with a large market potential globally.
Sea urchins are harvested sustainably using an innovative technological harvesting method in the arctic fjords of North Norway.
Through careful and methodological handling, the sea urchins are sorted thoroughly to ensure only the best quality urchins are delivered to end customers all over the world.
Ecofang - A Sustainable Growth Company
Scaling up the harvesting and export of Sea Urchins
Ecofang provides a solution to an unaddressed problem along the Norwegian coast. Sea Urchins is still unregulated for harvesting in Norway and traditional methods of harvesting are expensive and demanding. Our new technology will create new jobs along the coast and new revenue streams from an abundant and natural product.
The name ECOFANG is derived from the two words “ECO” and “FANG”. The word ECO has several meaning and in our case it points to ecology. The word FANG came into English from the Old Norse word fang, meaning “capture, grasp”, and the Old English fang which means “what is caught”. Fang also refers to “an animal’s prey is seized and sustained”
